Our provider beans have made some great progress. The pods are getting bigger. There have been little signs of herbivory. However, we've observed, moths, flies, caterpillar and other insects. Cockroaches have been spotted, they however are more of a concern for our seedling transplants. Ant hills have been an issue. Although ants have been used as beneficial insects in pest management, for us, they are more of a nuisance. To get rid of the ants, we used diatomaceous earth. This organic pesticide ruptures the exoskeleton of the ants, leaving them dehydrated. Peyton also applied thuricide to the bean plants a few weeks ago to rid them of hungry caterpillars, which has really helped the bean plants flourish.
